Strategy Workbench Expanded, Issue Packet Export Added, and Backup Verified

Today’s Voter Decision Project work focused on two goals: making the local VDP development environment more reliable and advancing the Strategy Workbench so it can produce a structured VDP Issue Packet.

Backup System
The scheduled backup from C:\VDP2026 to BASEMENTONE was investigated after repeated failures. The problem was traced to SMB authentication rather than network reachability. Credentials were corrected, the backup was run successfully, and a source/backup file comparison produced matching SHA-256 hashes. The actual Windows Scheduled Task was then tested without relying on an existing SMB session and returned LastTaskResult = 0. The backup repair and verification are now complete.

Strategy Workbench Launcher
The VB Dashboard Button11 launcher was failing even though the Workbench itself could run manually. The launcher was still pointing to an obsolete shared Python virtual environment. It was corrected to use the RIGHTBRAIN local environment at:

Q:\VDP_Strategy_Workbench\.venv\Scripts\python.exe

The Flask Workbench was then verified locally and across the LAN, and Button11 again successfully opened the Workbench.

VDP Issue Packet Export
The existing Workbench Markdown export was reviewed and found to be useful as a strategy summary, but not sufficient as a VDP Issue Packet. A second export route was added specifically for VDP Issue Packets.

The Workbench now has two separate export functions:

Export Markdown
Creates:
strategy-2.md

Export VDP Issue Packet
Creates:
ISSUE_PACKET_002.md

Both export buttons were tested and both outputs downloaded and formatted correctly.

Workbench Structure Expanded
The original Workbench contained six Strategy Canvas sections. Using the first real civic experiment revealed that the VDP model needs more explicit distinctions.

The Workbench was expanded to 21 sections, including:

What We Learned

During this work, a duplicated block of code was discovered in routes.py. The duplicate was silently replacing the new 21-section definition with the old six-section definition. The duplicate code was removed, Python was verified to recognize all 21 sections, and Project 2 was backfilled without losing existing content.

Experiment #1
The Newtown Grant Rent Affordability experiment continued to serve as the test case. Recommendation and Next Actions were populated, and the Workbench generated the first structured database-driven VDP Issue Packet.

The experiment also confirmed an important VDP design principle: incomplete sections do not need to be artificially filled. Blank sections can honestly represent information that has not yet been established.

End-of-Day Status
The current Strategy Workbench development increment is COMPLETE.

The Workbench now:
- launches correctly from the VB Dashboard;
- uses the correct local Python environment;
- contains 21 VDP-oriented analysis sections;
- preserves existing project content;
- exports a general Markdown strategy summary;
- exports a structured VDP Issue Packet; and
- supports continuing the civic experiment without further infrastructure work.

Next Focus
Return to the substance of Experiment #1: finalize the bounded public question, develop competing options, document uncertainties and assumptions, and begin the representative/government portion of the civic reasoning loop.

Further Workbench coding should be deferred unless the experiment exposes another concrete requirement.

 First an image of new code and the HTML as it is presented: Since the last entry I've been looking for a way to take data and write it out to the MySQL DB. I created a page Threeindex.html. I have added to buttons and to the menu/nav bar at the top. Only the NavBar at the top gets to the page. I've got the page to work with 2 different platforrms. Tried following the video from UDEMY, but it turns out the Radiobutton and Selectfield methods are deprecated or obsolete in some fashion. Something about FlaskForm/wtforms that is a problem. That took a while to settle that was the issue. I did manage to add error trapping. The "Learn more" buttons for Threeindex demonstrate that feature My continuing to connect what is typed into the HTML in Threeindex to the MySQL. The page Twoindex.html accessed through Flask_app.py code adds the same record - but there is no interaction

Successful connection to MySQL from HTML

 Found a page: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/retrieving-html-from-data-using-flask/ with a screen shot that parallels what I want to do - in terms of connecting to the DB.  Below is the screen shot that I was able to implement in FLASH_APP.PY and ThreeIndex.html in VDP. Coding paused due and restored

 A couple of weeks ago I started getting an "Internal Server Error" when I attempted to post a question.  The error log - https://www.pythonanywhere.com/user/BenConnolly/files/var/log/benconnolly.pythonanywhere.com.error.log  reported the following: 2023-04-09 12:11:19,223: error_code=None error_message='You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.' error_param=None error_type=insufficient_quota message='OpenAI API error received' stream_error=False I debated with myself if I should sign up for the API Key subscription. Over the weekend the CBS show called 60 Minutes dedicated 2 segment on Artificial Intellience.  This was an inspiration -  I signed up for a pay as you go plan yesterday.
